Paul McCartney

On the 28th and 29th of November 2012, Sir Paul McCartney visited for the first time as part of his “On the Run” tour. He played at two sold out audiences. The Pipes and Drums of the Edmonton Police Service were honoured to be selected to play on stage with Sir Paul for a rendition of his 1977 hit “Mull Of Kintyre”. The band has the distinction of being one of only six pipe bands who have ever played onstage with him for this song. After being secured to appear at the concert, the band went through two and a half weeks of intense rehearsals to fine tune the timing of the song. This culminated in 26 members being included in the second encore of Sir Paul’s set on both nights. The band successfully made the grade during the sound check on day one and performed extremely well during both concerts. Their performance has been widely viewed on You Tube. There are currently 11 videos devoted to the band’s performance available for viewing.
